Warranty
Many manufacturers and distributors offer warranty periods on items that they produce or sell.
In order to be able to track the warranty period, they must use a serial or lot number for an item and assign that item to a warranty agreement. Warranty claims come in, and if the item is under warranty then the manufacturer or distributor must repair or replace the item according to the warranty agreement.
If the item is not under the warranty period, then the item would be put into the repair process. Companies need to be able to track item faults to improve the manufacturing process, and also track the costs associated with the warranty agreement.
Scalable's Warranty Management component establishes and maintains warranty agreements on Items in Dynamics AX by serial number, and validates all warranty inquiries against the warranty period for that item. An Inquiry can be entered and a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) generated to allow the warranty item to be returned for repair or replacement. The system tracks item faults and test results, and provides analytical data that can be used to improve the manufacturing process.
Repair
Some manufacturers and distributors also provide repair services in addition to warranty repairs. There are varying levels of requirements for a repair shop. Some may require a full Service Management module and may also need Project Tracking. Others need a simple solution where they take item in, repair it and bill the client.
Scalable's Repair Management component provides a simple way to track item repairs, along with the labor and parts costs for the repair. Repairs can be carried out and recorded as a warranty job or billable job. If the job is outside of warranty the Repair department can provide an estimate for the repair that includes freight, materials and labor.
